  1. I went to college hoping to just graduate at least. And I did. In journalism, cant say this was the most useful degree but it was definitely easier to get a job back then.

  2. Taking accounting degree do not mean that u will be only accountant sure kids u explore and see your options but if it did not work it is okay just do not ever stop working and learning. Like if you took accounting you can do different stuff like finance, banking, economics, and so many things within business domains. Example me i took accounting and now i work in banking private equity and i love my Job, i will never change my major ever.

  3. This speaks to me! I have the same story. I secured a big 4 internship right after my sophomore year and had 2 more summer internships after that which led to a full time job in audit. Back then I didn't know there were other avenues to explore outside audit and tax so I just stuck with core accounting for a while because I thought that having an accounting degree meant you're pretty much stuck with accounting, audit, or tax. not knowing that people can pivot into more interesting jobs in business. I feel like I've pigeonholed myself at times but now working to move into a finance role to get into asset management. Just wish I knew a faster way to get there early on.

  4. Don’t Listen to people online! Seriously ! I did explore as a Multimedia Designer diploma to a Graphic Designer Bachelors. Hated my job, people I work with, got burned out so quickly, too much competition as a designer and marketing job. Got FIRED! Now I am in huge tuition debt I owe to loans.

I decided to pursue an accounting degree because it was something I like to begin with. Do not explore and be in debt.

PLEASE DONT LISTEN TO PEOPLE ONLINE IF YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY!

  5. What a horribly selfish and dishonest person. She has the choice to leave ucla and go to a different university that offers marketing but she rather sit there and whine that ucla isn’t giving her everything she wanted. what a child

  6. Please ignore this dogshit advice. Take the first job offer and keep applying for new jobs. A recruiter is much more likely to consider an applicant who already has a job, as it shows that the applicant is interested in the field and not just desperate for a paycheck.

  7. Her privilege is showing…. not everyone has a choice in their career. While she's out here making choices about where to work, other people are hustling to get a job in the first place. Not shitting on her, but it shows perspective of different starting points. Her advice only applies to a small group of people

  8. One thing i love about this is that unlike other majors(specifically stem) that require many years etc, becoming an accountant is much faster in comparison. I've even heard that universities aren't necessary and qualifications such as acca can be directly accquired after college.

  9. Accounting minor would help you through a CFP designation- more fulfilling and fun than a cpa and makes more too. You help people and make bank doing it

  10. I love accounting work! In marketing, many jobs pay straight commission. There are a ton of scam jobs in marketing and the interveiws can be quite convincing. I've tried both and have preferred accounting for the past 5 years. ❤

  11. I know some people who graduated then got a job in an unrelated field. Life is unpredictable. If it were me I'd say take what you can get and switch once you have enough resources.

  12. Seize the first opportunity that comes your way. You can continue to explore other options while earning an income. Securing employment can be challenging, so don't hesitate to accept an offer when it presents itself.

  13. This is excellence at its best. I recently read something similar, and it was absolutely outstanding. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell

  14. recently licensed CPA here. finished paying off my loans 3 years out of school & making 6 figures 5 years out of school at the age of 27.

Accounting was a great career choice for me! extra plus is the respect of all my friends & colleagues. I’m their go to person for any accounting/tax questions. It is flattering the trust they put in your opinion but of course, w/great power comes great responsibility & i take that seriously.

  15. Idk about that, I explored many options and I’m back at level 1 with life. Went through two careers in my 20s and now… people my age make twice I make while… I felt miserable but with 0 regrets. I have many life stories and happy moments but regardless, I need better circumstances

  16. I majored in the same thing, Business with a contraction in accounting. all I wanted after college was to find an Accounting career. I got rejection after rejection. I had to settle for A teller job.

  17. Lol I always wanted to do marketing, my college DOES offer marketing BUT recently they changed the curriculum and new courses are dumb and useless, idk what the heck they have done by removing old and perfect courses. Now I'm thinking to major in finance which i hate 🙂

  18. I’m thankful for not going to college at such an early age cause I got to explore different industries and now I finally found something I actually don’t mind doing
